The Abeka English program is known for excellence in its systematic study of grammar and composition, spelling and word usage, and inspiring literature. Why not provide your child an excellent education in language studies given by qualified professionals right at your very own house? By providing your child an excellent education in language studies, you are giving him vital skills for his life’s calling. The benefits of learning to communicate well cannot be overstated!
- Grammar and Composition—A foundation in traditional grammar teaches your child how language works and develops his logical thinking. Your teen will be writing four different kinds of essays, a character sketch, and many more writing applications that will help him strengthen his communication skills.
- Literature—Well-written stories about people—pioneers, patriots, professional athletes—entertain, motivate, and teach young people. Great storytellers like Dickens, O. Henry, and Kipling will develop your child’s vocabulary and reading comprehension. This year, your teen will be familiar with famous stories such as, A Christmas Carol, Robinson Crusoe, Pilgrim’s Progress, and Of Plymouth Plantation. Thoughtful class discussion and essay questions over the best and most beautiful of what has been written train him to approve thoughts that are excellent—whatsoever is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report!
- Vocabulary, Spelling, Poetry—Knowing the best word is often what distinguishes the best communicators. The 20 weekly spelling words and 7 weekly vocabulary words from the literature will take your child one step closer to that goal. And, with his video classmates, he will memorize 7 lyrical poems including “If” by Kipling, and “Opportunity” by Rowland Sill.
Your child will gain lifelong benefits from these lessons as he is challenged to grow in knowledge and skills by a master teacher, who provides clear explanations. As your child becomes acquainted with his video classmates, he will feel as though he is a part of the class. The teacher will even pause to allow “students watching” opportunity to participate.
The prerecorded online video streaming or DVDs give you the flexibility to set your own daily schedule. The video lease provides a full 12 months to complete the 170 lessons and 6 months to complete 85 lessons for a semester. You also have the option to purchase either the Video & Books or Video (for those who may already have some of the materials and wish to purchase individual items separately). A video manual is provided with either option to help you stay on track with the video teacher. Also, record-keeping progress reports are included with both options to document your child’s progress through the school year.
The Unaccredited program allows for more course flexibility and relies solely on the home teacher to keep track of student records. With this option, academic assistance is accessible through email, live chat, or phone. Conveniently view our Homeschool Agreement before purchase to understand the requirements.
