your teen an excellent education in language studies, you are giving him vital
skills for his life’s calling. The benefits of learning to communicate well
cannot be overstated! The A Beka
English program is known for excellence in its systematic study of grammar and
composition, spelling and word usage, and inspiring literature.
Literature—Great American short
stories, poems, and other selections are organized by genre and periods to
exemplify the specific characteristics of the time period—a great introduction
to college literature studies! His eyes will be opened to literary
craftsmanship as he traces a theme through Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter. Both
class discussion and essay questions will build his analytic skills.
and Composition—The grammar
handbook used in grades 11–12 will become an invaluable resource, even in
college! It provides a complete treatment of the elements necessary for
effective writing and correct grammar. Eleventh graders work on college-prep
writing assignments in research, essays, and literary analysis.
Spelling, Poetry—The emphasis on
the origin of vocabulary words; word analysis through the study of prefixes,
roots, and suffixes; and word analogies is an education in itself! In addition
to 144 vocabulary words, your teen will learn more than 1,000 synonyms and antonyms.
Through joining his video classmates in memorizing Frost’s “The Road Not Taken” and 8 other poems, your teen will be
inspired by great ideas presented in great language.
Your teen will gain lifelong benefits from these lessons as he is inspired
to grow in knowledge and skills by a master teacher, who provides clear
explanations. As your teen becomes more acquainted with his video classmates,
he will feel as though he is a part of the class. The teacher will even pause
to allow “classmates watching” opportunity to participate.
The prerecorded online video streaming or DVDs give you the flexibility
to set your own daily schedule. You have a full 12 months to complete the 170
lessons, which take 40–50 minutes of viewing time each. You also have the
option to purchase either the tuition and books or tuition only (for those who
may already have some of the materials and wish to purchase individual items
separately). Both options include the assessment materials, a video manual to
help you stay on track with the video teacher, and record-keeping progress
reports to document progress through the school year.
A Beka Academy also offers the option of Independent Study, in which you
keep your teen’s academic records, or our Accredited Program. Our Accredited
Program does not cost a penny more and provides official report cards, an
official transcript, and free standardized testing. It also gives you the
option to choose digital assessments. With either option, academic assistance
is only a phone call or an e-mail away.
