Your teen isn’t fully mature yet, but much of the conflict you’ve encountered the last few years should be behind you. He or she wants to relate to adults as an adult. And the reality is, your teen is almost a grown-up. Work with your child to set a calendar for all that might need to happen this year, including: completing college applications, arranging for diplomas and transcripts, applying for grants, aids, or loans. Once a student is accepted to college, there’s a temptation for him or her to coast. But easing up is a bad idea. Not only can bad habits carry into next year, some colleges have been known to rescind their acceptance of seniors who slack off. Make sure your child finishes strong.
