This year, your teenager joins the ranks of high school. The future begins in earnest now. It’s officially time to start thinking ahead. You don’t need to plan the rest of your child’s life, just the next four years. Map out what courses he or she will take and when. Get your child involved in a club, team, or volunteer organization. This can be helpful when it comes to college admissions. (NOTE: Consider the benefits of a long-term commitment to one or two compared to a superficial commitment to several.) Peer pressure is still a big deal at this stage of life. So, shore up what you’ve already taught about choosing right from wrong. Also, focus on his or her health and nutrition. Teens need good food, regular physical activity, and plenty of rest. Establishing good habits this year will have long-term benefits.
