This semester, your first grader will build a strong foundation in reading by mastering phonics
rules and beginning to read with confidence using a variety of fun, engaging readers. They’ll
grow in writing skills as they learn proper letter formation, sentence structure, and how to
write simple compositions. In Arithmetic, your child will work with number families, place
value, time and money, addition facts through 13, two-digit subtraction, and three-digit
addition with carrying. Science and Health introduce fascinating topics like animals, the five
senses, and good habits for staying healthy. Additionally, your child will garner a love a
language learning with the elementary Spanish lessons. With Abeka Academy’s virtual program,
your child will enjoy the structure and excitement of a classroom while you maintain the
flexibility to homeschool at your own pace.
As your child becomes acquainted with the students on the video, he will feel as though he is a
part of the class. The teacher will even pause to give “students watching” a turn to participate
in games, contests, and drills! While enjoying the fun and expanded learning of the classroom
experience, your child will have the benefit of your one-on-one guidance at home as you listen
to him read and recite, administer tests, and check his papers.
The prerecorded video lessons give you the flexibility to set your own daily schedule. The video
lease provides a full 12 months to complete the 170 lessons and 6 months to complete 85
lessons for a semester. A video manual is provided to help you stay on track with the video
teacher. Also, record-keeping progress reports are included with both options to document
your child’s progress through the school year. Additionally, you will receive all necessary
student textbooks and assessments (Spanish B materials sold separately), teacher keys for easy
grading, and cursive formation flashcards to support handwriting development—everything
you need for a smooth and successful school year.
Abeka Academy offers two different program types to meet your family’s specific needs. The
