Looking for fun and functional online resources that can lighten your load without completely emptying your wallet? Here are eight online tools that you can use to enhance instruction or improve organization in your classroom.
Google Classroom
With Google Classroom, you can design and share worksheets and presentations with your students. Some schools use this platform as their main method of assigning and checking work, but it could also just be a repository of extra worksheets and presentations that you offer to students who need extra help. They will receive immediate feedback on assignments, and Google Classroom tracks and stores the results so that you can identify areas where students are struggling. The program is free for teachers. Your students or their parents will need Google accounts to access the resources you create.
Class Dojo
Class Dojo is a fun and colorful platform that elementary teachers can use to communicate with parents and track students’ progress. The secure communication features in Class Dojo allow you to communicate easily and safely with parents without having to give out your personal phone number; plus, the program can translate messages into over 130 languages, enabling clear communication with all parents. The point system within Class Dojo can be used to acknowledge students who are working faithfully. You can also use the program’s other features to create student certificates, letters to parents, or fun review activities.
Kahoot!
Reviewing is a hoot with this online platform. There is a small monthly cost for teachers who want access to more than the basic features; however, you might find that the fun and engaging activities you’ll create are worth the price. You can create review games using a variety of question types, ensuring a quality review. Students can either join the games on their own devices, or you can run the game through your device and have students provide the answers.
Quizizz
You can use Quizizz to create review sheets, quizzes, and activities for your students. Teachers can stick with the free account or pay for upgrades to increase their storage capacity and to incorporate a greater variety of question types. If you want to up the ante in a classroom review, you can use Quizizz’s gamification features. You could also give students access to the worksheets and quizzes for practice at home. Either way, your students will benefit from the extra review.
Paperlike Digital Planner
Paperlike’s free digital planner gives you the aesthetic of a paper planner with the functionality of digital access. The planner can sync across your devices, enabling you to access your schedule and to-do list anytime, anywhere. If you want additional planner templates, you can upgrade to Paperlike’s Pro Planner.
Planboard
If you want a planning tool specifically designed for lesson plans, you can use Planboard. After creating a free account, you can use this tool to create your schedule, seating charts, and lesson plans for the school year. You can also use Planboard to share plans with substitute teachers, making things easier both for you and for them. Individual plans are free, but if your administration wants multiple teachers to use this program, they can invest in a Chalk Gold subscription to access Planboard’s collaborative features.
