Campus Tour: Learn What Goes Into Abeka Curriculum From Conception to Print

Have you ever wondered how your Abeka curriculum is made and who the people behind it are?

My family and I took a trip to Pensacola this summer to find out! While on campus, we toured:

  1. Abeka’s headquarters (AKA the Abeka Building)
  2. The print shop
  3. The distribution center
  4. Pensacola Christian Academy

We started at Abeka’s main offices, where homeschool curriculum is developed. Everything from writing and illustrating to editing and publishing happens there. The call center and grading center are located inside as well. So if you make a call to ask a question about your curriculum, that’s where your call goes! For families who rely on Abeka’s accredited homeschool solutions, the grading center is where tests and other graded work ends up.

Once Abeka’s team completes the curriculum development process, it’s sent to Abeka’s own print shop, just down the street. The print shop is a large building responsible for printing, binding, and trimming the curriculum into recognizable books.

After books are printed and assembled in the print shop, they’re sent to Abeka’s distribution center

In this large building, also located on campus, books are inventoried and stored, awaiting purchase. Once purchased, “picking” experts move through aisles between stacked row after stacked row of Abeka products.

Items are handpicked and orders filled individually. In other words, when your order is placed, there is a person on the other end of that order who hand-selects your items and places each product onto a conveyor belt to be packaged and labeled. Once complete, the familiar Abeka boxes are loaded onto trucks and shipped to homeschool families all over the world.

After following the curriculum development, printing, and distribution process, we headed to Pensacola Christian Academy (PCA). If you use Abeka Academy virtual lessons, you would recognize PCA. This is the school where Abeka Academy is filmed!

While following the process was incredible, the people at Abeka made the biggest impression. Every single person we met was excited to tell us about their part in bringing Abeka’s products into homes and schools around the world. They have a passion for creating a biblically sound curriculum.

Most people we met shared that other members of their family worked on campus, too. Many mentioned they homeschooled with Abeka, or their kids attend school at PCA. In other words: It’s not just a job. They believe in the program so much that they trust it to educate their own children.

As we walk into our sixth year of homeschooling with Abeka Academy, I can say with confidence that the curriculum development is thorough, and the people behind it are dedicated. They showed so much transparency, bringing us behind the scenes. We walked on campus confident in the quality of the curriculum, and we left confident in the people behind it, too!
