Create a leaf Tessellation drawing, a mathematical method of connecting flat planes or geometric shapes, without overlaps or gaps.
Materials
12×18 art paper
Cardstock
Pencil
Ruler
Colored pencils
Scissors
Tape
Permanent marker

Steps
Step 1: Measure and cut a 4” piece of cardstock.

Step 2: Draw an organic line on one side of the cardstock.

Step 3: Cut out the line and tape the piece directly across to the other side of the cardstock.

Step 4: Draw another organic line on another side of the cardstock. Repeat step 3. *this may take several tries for an image to resemble a leaf and is part of the mathematical challenge of making a tessellation.

Step 5: Use the cardstock shape to trace it onto your art paper. Continue tracing the template so the leaf shape connects like a puzzle. There should not be any gaps.

Step 6: Trace the pencil lines with a black permanent marker.

Step 7: Color in your leaf shapes with colored pencil.
