Easter is one of the best times to teach students about Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, His resurrection, and the reason He died—”For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23, KJV). Christ’s resurrection is the victory over sin and death, offering the hope of eternal life to all who believe. But with the world bombarding them with thoughts of Easter bunnies, eggs, and candy, you may have noticed some students are unaware of what Easter is truly about. How can we, as educators, show our students the true reason we celebrate?
Here are some fun ideas to teach about the resurrection using Easter themes to truly touch students’ hearts!
Easter Verse Hunt
Your students are likely used to hunting for eggs every year. Why not incorporate this tradition into the resurrection story?
Use the following instructions to create an Easter verse hunt!
-
Print out the verses of Matthew 28:1–20.
-
Cut each verse into strips.
-
Tuck each individual verse into a plastic egg.
-
Number each egg according to the verse.
-
Hide eggs in the classroom or playground.
Once it is time, let students hunt for verses and organize them based on number! When all the verses are found, open them one by one to tell the story of the resurrection!
Jelly Bean Prayer
The Jelly Bean Prayer by Charlene Dickerson is an excellent way to remind students of the real meaning of Easter. You can bring in some jelly beans for each student, and print off the prayer for them to read on their own time or memorize as a class! The best part is students will likely remember this prayer for years to come when they see jelly beans! Download printable here.
Special Bible Lesson
The simplest way to teach students about Christ’s resurrection is a special Bible Lesson.
Block out a longer period for this lesson, allow students to eat their snack, bring in a treat, or even take the lesson outside to make this story truly special for your class!
Follow Jesus’s journey from His Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, through the Last Supper, to His crucifixion at Golgotha, and then to His burial, resurrection, and eventual ascension. Take your students on a beautifully illustrated journey through the Easter story with our Abeka Crucifixion and Resurrection Flash-a-Cards.
Easter is more than just a day—it’s a reminder that hope is ever-renewed through Christ’s incredible gift. So, while we may share chocolate eggs and enjoy springtime blooms, let’s also reflect on the love and grace that Jesus offers us daily. Wishing you a season full of joy, peace, and countless blessings.
Happy Easter!
